“Intermittent fasting” is a term you have probably heard a lot lately, but what exactly is it and is it good for you?

Intermittent fasting is when you are allowed to eat meals during an eight-hour time frame. For example, one might choose to eat their meals between the hours of 12pm and 8pm and fast the other 16 hours of the day. Those following this pattern might eat less than normal since they have a smaller time frame for all 3 meals, and because your body is not getting fuel from food it must break down fat to make energy. These two factors can lead to weight loss, but it is not for everyone.

It is important to keep in mind, while some might find a balance in this 8-hour time frame, others might restrict their intake too much and some people might overindulge trying to make up for lost time. Diets like this do not seem to be sustainable for most people, as they can be somewhat restrictive and hard to maintain. If weight loss is the overall goal, there are others ways to achieve it!

First off, start your day with a healthy breakfast to boost your metabolism and set you up for a day full of good choices. Choosing a breakfast with a balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates will keep you full and give you the energy you need to get your day going.
